My travel experiences

As I have mentioned before I have been traveling a bunch – especially the past year and a half. What I haven’t told you is where I have been, what my favorite place has been so far, and where I am going next. So here it comes:

Ever since I was little my family and I would always go on summer holidays to southern Europe. Our main destinations were Italy, Spain and France. We would quite often go with the rest of our family or with family friends and stay at big campsites for a couple of weeks and just hang by the pool or jump in the ocean. However, we would also quite often go skiing in Norway or Austria. I’ve always loved traveling with my family and experience Europe with them, and I think my lust for traveling started from those family holidays back when I was young… As I grew up and got older I went with a youth group to The States and to Barcelona (where I have been 7 times so far), and I have now visited 21 countries and 9 states with more to come!

A month before I graduated from school 2 years ago I bought a ticket to Australia, and this is when my life changed completely… I fell completely in love with Sydney and Australia. So much that I decided to extend my trip for another three months so that I could live and work there before I had to go home. So I went to The Philippines and applied for a working holiday visa which I got 5 days later, and off I went back to Sydney, found a home and a job and lived the sweet life for 3 months. When it nearly was time to go home I went to Bali for 10 days before I headed home to Denmark and planned my next trip which is where I am now: New Zealand. I will tell you more about my kiwi experience later on!

As of today I only have 2 more days left in New Zealand. It is a bittersweet feeling after being here for 6 months, but I am ready to continue my travels and experience both “old” and new places! Friday morning I am flying to Sydney to see some of my friends and to see one my favorite cities again. 5 days after that I will be flying to Hawaii to celebrate 4th of July (wehuu) American style. After that I will be visiting Canada, New York, Prague, Malaga (Spain) and hopefully Amsterdam – and I couldn’t be more excited!

If you have ever been to any of those places and you have any recommendations of hikes, beaches, shops, other must see’s what so ever, please let me know! Everything is much appreciated!

Working in Milford Sound

For the past four months I have been living and working in Milford Sound in New Zealand, where I both worked and lived at the lodge (Milford Sound Lodge) doing housekeeping and working in café PioPio.

To those of you who don’t know what Milford Sound is I can tell you that it is an incredible place. It is a part of Fiordland National Park, which is the biggest national park in New Zealand, it is also a World Heritage Area, and some people even call it the eight wonder of the world. Living in these surroundings and waking up every day to something that looks like it’s been taken out of a Jurassic Park movie is absolutely amazing. Even after rainfall (which happens quite often since it is the wettest place on earth) the lodge, which I worked at, would be surrounded by thousands of waterfalls, which would leave you breathless!

Living and working in Milford has been an incredible experience where I have met a lot of wonderful people, where I have learned a lot about myself and about what I can do (and cannot do). Several times I have been pushed to the limit on hikes, I have cried, I have laughed and I have had the time of my life! From time to time living in such a remote environment can be quite tough. There is only one road that leads to Milford, and it has only been accessible for about 60 years. Before that the only way to Milford was by boat entering from outside the fiord or by climbing the Homer Saddle. There is also no need to bring a cell phone here since there is no such thing as phone reception and Wi-Fi is for purchase only. I know, it sounds crazy, but it’s a fact. How did I survive? you might ask. To be honest it was pretty easy…

Being surrounded by thousands of mountains and endless waterfalls makes you forget about the “other world” out there leaving you in a tiny “Milford Bubble” resulting in pure happiness and me being totally oblivious to whatever was going on around the world. I think the fact that our only option was to live life “right here, right now” sort of thing made everyone in Milford really close and lead us to do all sorts of stuff leaving us with memories for life. It wasn’t all rainbows and butterflies but it was the time of my life, and I know now that when life gives you rain you just gotta play in the puddles!

Just your average Jo

Hi there,

My name is Josefine, I’m a 22 year old girl from Denmark and if you ask me I’m honestly not a very special person, I’m pretty average. However, I do have an amazing hobby, which I share with a lot of other people from all over the world, and that hobby is travelling. I have more or less been travelling all of my life but it has mostly been shorter trips around Europe and mainly at resorts (which was nice, don’t get me wrong, but I didn’t really get to explore the areas), but two years ago I made a decision that changed my life: I bought a flight ticket to Australia. Now I am on a working holiday visa in New Zealand where I until a few weeks ago lived and worked in Milford Sound, which is an unbelievably beautiful place (I’ll tell you more about this at some point)!

The reason why I have chosen to start this blog is first of all so that I one day can look back at all of my experiences and how I felt at a certain time in life. I might as well be honest with you from the start – this is not the first time I have started a blog. I have had a few ones before but they never really worked out because of one simple reason: I did not have a reason behind blogging. I do now though, and I feel more motivated than ever!
